DMA troubleshooting: common errors and fixes

Find the error message that matches yours and work through the fixes in order. Several problems have more than one cause, so try every suggestion before opening a ticket.

"Failed to connect to memory acquisition device"

• The classic fix: power both PCs fully off, wait ten seconds, unplug and re-seat the USB cable (re-seating the card itself is rarely necessary), then boot both machines again.
• Make sure every step of the second PC setup was completed — the driver in particular. Skipping or half-finishing that guide produces this error every time.

"Unable to locate valid DTB"

• Most often solved by generating a memory map.
• A full shutdown and restart of both machines clears it in many cases.
• Virtualisation features on the gaming PC can block DMA access. Intel users should disable VT-d (and VT-x if needed) in the BIOS; AMD users should disable SVM Mode and IOMMU. Menu names vary by motherboard, so search for your exact model. Some Gigabyte boards need a specific BIOS revision — check with the manufacturer.
• If the error appeared only after flashing new firmware, and nothing above helps, the firmware itself is the suspect. Contact whoever supplied it.

"Failed to find base address"

Try these in order:

• Full shutdown of both PCs, short wait, power on. This alone resolves most cases.
• Confirm your memory map was generated on the gaming PC and is named mmap.txt next to the loader.
• Repair Windows system files on both machines: open Command Prompt as administrator, run sfc /scannow, wait for it to finish, then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. Restart when both commands complete and launch Fave DMA again.

USB devices dropping out while the DMA card is active

If your headset, mouse or keyboard on the gaming PC starts disconnecting once the card is in use, the card is competing for bandwidth or IRQ resources:

• Move the DMA card to a different PCIe slot, or swap slots with another expansion card such as a network adapter.
• Move the affected USB device to another port and test each port on the motherboard — some controllers share a bus with the PCIe slot, others do not.
